Universiti Malaya (UM) has dropped from the top 200 of the prestigious 2010 QS World University Rankings – slipping to 207 this year compared to 180 in 2009.Few years back, when the UM's ranking dropped but still within 200, my uni celebrated in the biggest way ever that UM is Top 200 uni. Printed up banners which decorated the whole campus as if a general election is coming or something. I was wondering whether anyone pocketed the differences in setting up the celebration.
Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) and Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) all improved on their 2009 positions.
UKM is ranked 263 this year compared to 291 in 2009; USM at 309 (314) and UPM is 319 (345).
Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) dropped to 365 this year compared to 320 in 2009.
Perhaps, I have a premonition that perhaps UM will celebrate once again - Top 210? Top 300? or be complacent with Top Uni in Malaysia.
The statement that the biggest failures in the world are those who are stupid but think they are smart, may still hold water.
